I can't say that I love to see tons of kooks in the water, and surf lessons and rentals breed these like flies on crap, but as long as the operators follow these simple rules, I'm okay with it:

1) Teach beginners to respect the space of established surfers
2) Teach beginners to hold their boards and not drop in
3) Don't give away sensitive surf locations

And don't just hand out boards to beginners and point them in the direction of the beach without teaching them how to surf and respect others in the water.
