I have a similar story in 2006 at DaDonghai, southern end of beach near the rock pool near the jetty. just after the Typhon hit end of August, I was out with Brian the KiteSurfer and a Japanese girl surfer named Shizuka. The waves were roughly 5 -6 feet sets closing out with the occasional good short, sucky left rippin into the ropes. Bit Scary !

We were paddling around when we heard a whistle blowin, we looked to the shore to see a lifeguard waving at us. I waved back and of course continued paddling, this guy continued for half an hour. Each time one of us caught a wave we waved at him.

Eventually he got sicked and tired of blowin his whistle and wavin, he stopped. When we caught our waves in, I cheekily waved to the lifeguard he waved back. I guess he eventually realised we had no trouble.

Another time I was down near the middle of Dadonghai, near the jet skis and swimming ropes, near the central walkway. The surf was 1 foot dribbling, was by myself nobody in the water. I was catching crap occasionally, when I was joined by Brian and Canadian Steve.

We were talking and swimming around when the jet ski guys/ocassional lifeguards decided it was time to hassle us and move us along. They waved at me and called out in Madarin. Of course I don't speak Mandarin, so I waved and hung in the water.

I eventually caught some waves when one of the guys got on his Jetski and zoomed over to me and tried to talk to me and tried to get aggressive. I expressed in my best Aussie manner what he could with his Agro. He got the message and left me alone with the boys.
